Scotland scrum-half and recently called-up British & Irish Lion Greig Laidlaw has been demoted to the bench for the European Challenge Cup final against Stade Francais on Friday night.

Gloucester have made six changes to the lineup that started against Exeter Chiefs in the Premiership, with Willie Heinz returning at No. 9 to captain the side at Murrayfield.

Heinz will partner Billy Burns in the halves in his return from injury, while Tom Marshall bolsters the side at fullback.

In the forwards, fellow Lion Ross Moriarty returns on the blindside having been rested against the Chiefs, while Josh Hohneck and Jeremy Thrush also start.

Gloucester Director of Rugby David Humphreys insists his side will lift in performance in a cup final situation after a disappointing Premiership campaign.

"With a Cup Final, there's not a huge amount of motivation required, everybody knows how important this game is for the club. Everybody knows that, while we've got to win this weekend, we've also the opportunity still to get Gloucester back into the Champions Cup.

"Players, throughout their careers, don't always get many opportunities to play in Cup Finals. When it comes along, you've got to make sure you're in the best place you can to win and that will be very much the case when we turn up to Murrayfield on Friday evening."

Stade Francais will be led by Italy captain Sergio Parisse, with internationals Will Genia and Jules Plisson in the halves.
