Premiership Rugby has fined Wasps £20,264 for a breach of the salary cap during the 2016-17 season.
A statement released by Premiership Rugby revealed that following an independent audit, it had been established that Wasps overran the limit by £40,528.
In accordance with the body's regulations, club has been ordered to pay 50p per £1 over the cap, meaning last season's Aviva Premiership's finalists must stump up £20,264.
"This is not a breach of the regulations and there is no suggestion it was deliberate," a Premiership Rugby spokesman said. "A number of adjustments were identified by the independent auditors which resulted in the overrun. These have now been addressed."
The level of the cap for 2017-18 is £7 million, with salaries of two players allowed to come outside of the cap.
Wasps recruited the likes of Australian Kurtley Beale and Danny Cipriani ahead of the 2016-17 season, with South Africa international Willie Le Roux joining during the campaign.
