Adam Jones announces decision to retire from rugby and will take up role at Harlequins

Rugby

Adam Jones has announced that he will retire from rugby at the end of the season to take up a coaching role at his current club Harlequins.

The former Wales and British and Irish Lion international won three Grand Slams with his country, representing Wales 95 times.

The prop forward played in three World Cups and toured twice with the Lions, including being part of the victorious side that toured Australia in 2014.

Jones had a distinguished club career at the Ospreys, before moving to Cardiff Blues and finishing his career at Harlequins where he will become Assistant Forwards Coach to Graham Rowntree.

Speaking on his decision the 37-year-old said: "I'll be officially retiring from playing at the end of the season. I've had a great career and never thought I'd go on to achieve what I have.

"I'm so passionately proud to have played so many times for Wales and was fortunate to be a part of three Grand Slam-winning teams.

"But it's time to move onto the next chapter of my career and concentrate on coaching. Coaching is a route I have always wanted to go down, so this is an opportunity for me to work with and learn from two of the best in John Kingston and Graham Rowntree."
