Leinster, Racing 92 dominate European POTY nominations

Rugby, European Rugby Champions Cup

Leinster and Racing 92 dominate the shortlist for the EPCR European Player of the Year after both sides booked their places in the Champions Cup final.

Scott Fardy is one of three Leinster players nominated for the award following his brilliant display in his side's semifinal victory over Scarlets, while fly-half Johnny Sexton and Tadhg Furlong join their teammate on the list.

Racing's Maxime Machenaud and Leone Nakarawa also make the shortlist which has been shortened down from the initial 15 nominees based on the combined verdict of a panel of rugby experts and a public vote.

Last year's award was won by Saracens' Owen Farrell, while the likes of Maro Itoje, Jonny Wilkinson and Ronan O'Gara are other illustrious names to have been crowned European Player of the Year.

The winner of the public vote will be announced following next month's Champions Cup final.

Shortlist:

Scott Fardy (Leinster Rugby)

Tadhg Furlong (Leinster Rugby)

Maxime Machenaud (Racing 92)

Leone Nakarawa (Racing 92)

Johnny Sexton (Leinster Rugby)
