Cornell Du Preez: Worcester forward to have further surgery after injuring larynx

Rugby, Aviva Premiership

Worcester Warriors loose forward Cornell du Preez is stable but will require further surgery after injuring his larynx in Saturday's 21-20 defeat by Wasps, the English Premiership club have said.

The South African-born Scotland international suffered a blow to the throat in a tackle just five minutes into his first game for the club, following a summer switch from Edinburgh.

The 27-year-old No. 8 was taken to hospital immediately after the incident amid concerns that he had fractured his voice box, which could affect his breathing.

"Cornell du Preez is stable and resting in hospital. Further surgery will be required to his larynx," Worcester tweeted.

"The club is providing full support for Cornell and his family and wishes him a speedy recovery."
