Uganda's Miya, Onyango set to miss Nigeria clash

Uganda will be without Farouk Miya and captain Denis Onyango for Tuesday's international friendly against Nigeria at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

The two sides booked their tickets to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday, with the Cranes dispatching Cape Verde and the Super Eagles holding South Africa 1-1 in Johannesburg.

"Miya and Onyango have asked to be excused after they picked up some knocks in the game against Cape Verde on Saturday," Uganda assistant coach Mathias Lule told ESPN.

"This friendly comes at a very good time as we have already qualified and the players are eager to prove a lot more."

The 18-man Uganda Cranes team travelled on Sunday morning, with Tout Puissant Mazembe winger Joseph Ochaya, SV Ried's Edrisa Lubega and defender Murushid Juuko also absent from the travelling party.

The last time Uganda and Nigeria met - in a friendly in 2015 - Milutin Sredojevic's side secured a shock 1-0 result.

"I am excited that we are going to have the chance to play a high-profile team like Nigeria," Cranes coach Desabre added.

"It's through such big friendly games that, as a coach I get to learn many other things and it also help the players to develop better."

Desabre has previously overseen friendlies against Sao Tome e Principe, Malawi, Niger and the Central African Republic.
