Aby Maraño named captain of national volleyball squad

F2 Logistics middle blocker Aby Maraño was named team captain of the women's volleyball national squad. The announcement came Sunday night after the Philippine Superliga (PSL) All-Star exhibition game in Baguio.

"I'm so happy that I was given this kind of opportunity," said Maraño.

Head coach Shaq delos Santos has yet to reveal the rest of the pool members who are set to compete at the Asian Games in August, the Asian Women's Volleyball Cup in September, and the Southeast Asian Games next year.

Maraño, a two-time UAAP Most Valuable Player, is a national team veteran who has represented the country since 2015.

"When I was young, being a national team player was my dream," shared the former La Salle star. "I didn't expect that I will be the team captain. I'm accepting this responsibility with all my heart. I'm thankful to God because when I asked for pandesal, he gave me a burger. He doubled the blessings."

As part of its preparations for the upcoming international tournaments, the national team will participate in the PSL Invitational that kicks off on June 23.
