The United States will host
India in North Carolina for their Davis Cup World Group
qualifying round tie in September, an Indian tennis official
said on Friday.
"The United States Tennis Association has confirmed the
venue to us. The tie will be held at Winston Salem in North
Carolina," an All India Tennis Association official told
Reuters.
The surface for the tie has not been announced, he said.
The winner of the Sept. 21-23 tie will qualify for the
2002 World Group, while the loser will compete in zonal group
one competitions next year.
The United States were defeated 3-2 in Switzerland in the
first round of the Davis Cup earlier this year. India completed
3-2 wins over China and Japan to advance to the qualifying round
through zonal competition in Asia/Oceania Group 1.
The two teams last met in India in 1994, when the U.S. won
5-0.
