Holden ace David Reynolds is hopeful he can close the gap to Ford rival Scott McLaughlin in this weekend's Supercars event in New Zealand. The entire fleet of Commodores in this year's championship have undergone aerodynamic adjustments ahead of the trip to Pukekohe Park Raceway after a request by Holden homologation team Triple Eight. The Penrite Racing star believes the changes could enable him to halt McLaughlin's dominance with the Ford driver out to eclipse Craig Lowndes' record of 16 wins in a single Supercars season. "I have won races there before, been on the podium and had pole, so I've gone pretty good in the past," Reynolds said about the Pukekohe circuit. "The track is good fun, it's high-speed, rough, flows good and it's challenging. "Hopefully the changes that Supercars have provided our cars with bridge the gap and we are able to tune the car and come on strong this weekend." New Zealander McLaughlin heads across the Tasman with a whopping 573-point lead in the championship standings after winning both races at the Bend SuperSprint in South Australia last month. The DJR Team Penske driver's form has come amid a war of words with Reynolds since the pair clashed at the Townsville 400 earlier this year. Reynolds is yet to win a race in 2019 and had a difficult weekend at Tailem Bend with results of seventh and 13th, but believes data from teammate Anton de Pasquale can get his Commodore up to speed. "Anton was really fast at Tailem Bend and we are going to a similar track, so hopefully what we have learnt from him we can put in my car and go forward this weekend," he said.
