Arike Ogunbowale among five Irish players on preseason Wooden list

Five players from defending champion Notre Dame are on the preseason top 30 list for the Wooden Award in women's basketball.

Arike Ogunbowale, Jackie Young, Marina Mabrey, Jessica Shepard and Brianna Turner, who missed last season with a knee injury, all made the list for the Irish, who are the preseason No. 1 team.

There are four other ACC players on the list: Louisville's Asia Durr, North Carolina's Paris Kea, Duke's Leaonna Odom and Syracuse's Tiana Mangakahia.

Besides Notre Dame, other teammates on the list are UConn's Katie Lou Samuelson, Napheesa Collier and Crystal Dangerfield; Mississippi State's Teaira McCowan and Anriel Howard; Oregon's Sabrina Ionescu and Ruthy Hebard; Baylor's Kalani Brown and Lauren Cox; and Stanford's Alanna Smith and Kiana Williams.

The others on the list, in alphabetical order: Cal's Kristine Anigwe, Iowa State's Bridget Carleton, Texas A&M's Chennedy Carter, Maryland's Kaila Charles, Missouri's Sophie Cunningham, Tennessee's Rennia Davis, Iowa's Megan Gustafson, South Florida's Katija Laksa, Georgia's Caliya Robinson and Oregon State's Destiny Slocum.

South Carolina's A'ja Wilson was the Wooden Award winner last season. She and UConn's Gabby Williams were on the Wooden All-American team last season and are now in the WNBA. They were joined on that team by Durr and Samuelson, both now seniors, and Ionescu, a junior.
