Baylor junior forward Lauren Cox, who had to leave the women's NCAA tournament championship game with a knee injury, will not need surgery. The Lady Bears won the title 82-81 over Notre Dame on Sunday and then got the good news about Cox after they returned home to Waco, Texas, from Tampa, Florida. After Cox underwent an MRI on Monday, it was determined she sustained an MCL sprain with bone bruising, the school said. According to a release from Baylor, there is no timetable for Cox's return to basketball activities. A two-time Big 12 defensive player of the year, Cox is expected to be one of the top players in the nation next season as a senior for Baylor. Cox was injured under Notre Dame's basket with 1 minute, 22 seconds left in the third quarter Sunday, with Baylor leading 62-50. She had 8 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocked shots and 2 assists when she left the game. Cox returned to the Baylor bench on crutches with a brace on her knee with 4:55 left in the game and the score tied 74-74. She had to watch the rest of the way, but her teammates secured the victory. Cox had 21 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists in Baylor's 72-67 semifinal victory over Oregon on Friday.
