Deja Kelly, the No. 17 prospect in the espnW HoopGurlz Top 100, has committed to North Carolina and will sign with the Tar Heels on Monday night. "Once I took my visit to Chapel Hill, I just fell in love with it," Kelly told espnW. Kelly, a 5-foot-8 guard for Duncanville High School in Texas, ultimately picked UNC over Texas A&M, Duke and Minnesota. Early on, Notre Dame and Oregon were participants in the Kelly sweepstakes. "North Carolina was the last school to reach out to me. They didn't connect with me until late July," Kelly said. "Courtney Banghart, the first-year coach at UNC, formerly at Princeton, made the pitch to me, enlightened me on what UNC had to offer. I'm a broadcasting major and Carolina is strong in that field as well. And, I just hit it off with her. ... She told me her plans for me, her vision to help build UNC into a national title team." The Tar Heels get a combo guard who excels in a one-on-one game. An offensively gifted player with a silky jumper, Kelly is also smooth off the dribble and finishes plays in consistent fashion. She was once a commit to Texas, where her father, Darren Kelly, played from 1999 to 2001. But that was in October 2014 as a seventh-grader, and Kelly decommitted last October. Kelly, the last top-25 prospect to announce her commitment, joins a Tar Heels class that also includes No. 50 prospect Anya Poole, No. 90 prospect Kennedy Todd-Williams, three-star wing Alyssa Ustby and three-star forward Alexandra Zelaya.
