My father always promised us that we would live in France
A one of those touching, bonding moments: after watching Pete. Jr. get two hits Thursday, father Pete Rose took his son for dinner at Hooter's.

Lost in the ozone, again
Robinson (Crusoe) Checo was the last player to report, 22 days late to the Dodgers, and was assigned to the minor league complex. Checo pitched winter ball and failed to get out of the first inning in either start against Puerto Rico in the Caribbean World Series, played in his native Santo Domingo. The pitcher for whom Checo was traded, Dave Mlicki, is Detroit's opening day starter.

Dancing in the dark
Among the many baseball celebrities at Bruce Springsteen's St. Petersburg concert last weekend were Red Sox executives Dan Duquette and Lee Thomas.

Brothers in arms
The lost Perez brother, Dario, is in spring training with the Red Sox after five years in Taiwan, one in Mexico and last season in Calgary. Dario reports that Melido tried to come back but had more arm problems, Pascual is doing well in the Dominican, Vladimir is in the Florida organization and the Dodgers know where Carlos is at all times. Dario also reports that Pascual's minor league son, Pascualito, "is just like his father."

Oh yes. Dario can speak Chinese.

Broadway is dark tonight
Some would suggest that the Braves-Mets rivalry was a good one, but the only regulars the Mets sent to play Atlanta at Disney on Friday were Darryl Hamilton and Edgardo Alfonzo. And those spring training tickets aren't cheap.
