PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) _ Jay Buhner hit his fifth home run of spring training and Alex Rodriguez got his first as the Seattle Mariners ended a three-game losing streak with an 18-9 victory over the Anaheim Angels on Sunday.

The Angels helped the Mariners with four errors _ by Scott Spiezio, Larry Barnes, Orlando Palmeiro and Tim Salmon _ for four unearned runs.

Buhner, hoping to come back and have a strong season after having two injury-filled years, hit a three-run homer in the second inning to help the Mariners jump out to a 9-3 lead.

Rodriguez, who will be with the Mariners for the entire season before he becomes a free agent, homered in the third.

John Halama, an 11-game winner last season, made his first start of the spring for Seattle, but needed all the offensive support he could get. In 2 2-3 innings, he allowed six runs on seven hits, including Benji Gill's home run.

Salmon also homered for the Angels.

"Halama was up with his pitches and he got hit pretty good early," Mariners manager Lou Piniella said. "We need for him to start getting the ball down better, changing speeds a little better. That's the type of pitcher he is."

With Jamie Moyer, Halama is one of two left-handers in Seattle's starting rotation. Brett Tomko, a right-hander who came to the Mariners from Cincinnati on Feb. 10 in the trade for Ken Griffey Jr., is pressing for a starting spot with the Mariners.

Piniella is hopeful Buhner, 35, can have a good season this year because of the offseason loss of Griffey.

"He came to camp in very good shape and he's strong," Piniella said. "We've just got to keep him healthy."

Anaheim's Jason Dickson (0-2), who missed all last season because of surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, didn't give up a home run, but lasted only 1 1-3 innings. He allowed seven runs, three of them earned, on five hits.

Notes: Mariners first baseman John Olerud made the defensive play of an otherwise sloppy game when he speared Keith Luuloa's line drive in the fifth and then doubled off Benji Gill, who was on first base, for a double play. ... Franie Rodriguez pitched three shutout innings for Seattle before Arthur Rhodes and Jose Mesa closed out the Angels with one scoreless inning each. ... Salmon's homer was his third of the spring.
