PHOENIX (AP) _ Bernard Gilkey hit a two-run homer and Armando Reynoso shut down Colorado for eight innings as the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Rockies 7-1 Tuesday night.

Reynoso (1-2) gave up three hits, walked two and struck out two. He kept the ball low, allowing only three fly balls to the outfield.

Reynoso started the game by retiring 10 straight batters, and he also retired his final 10.

Arizona broke open the game with five runs in the eighth, capped by Luis Gonzalez's two-run homer.

Greg Colbrunn led off the Arizona fourth with a single against Scott Karl (0-1). After a forceout, Gilkey hit a liner 417 feet into the lower grandstand in left-center field.

Tony Womack added a two-run triple off Stan Belinda in the eighth. Jay Bell drove in Womack with his second double of the game and Gonzalez homered off Jerry Dipoto.

Reynoso stopped the Rockies until Mike Lansing doubled with one out in the fourth. After Larry Walker walked, Jeff Cirillo made it 1-0 with a sharp single.

It was the Rockies' 25th consecutive run without a homer, a span of 2 1/2 games.

The Rockies put runners on second and third with one out in the fifth. Tom Goodwin hit a liner to Bell that he caught just above the dirt, and the second baseman flipped it to second to double up Brent Mayne.

Notes: Colorado's Todd Helton singled in the ninth to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. ... Rockies LF Darren Bragg may have stolen an out in the first inning when he raced to the warning track and gloved a long fly by Gonzalez. In replays, it appeared the ball popped out of Bragg's glove and hit the ground. He was booed at the plate the rest of the game. ... Gonzalez went 1-for-5, slumping to 3-for-37 since he opened the season by hitting in five straight games. ... Reynoso, who gave up 19 runs in the first inning of his 27 starts last year, has not allowed a first-inning run this year in three starts. ... Karl missed a chance to reach .500 in his career, falling to 50-52 in his 150th start.
