BOSTON (Ticker) -- Continued rain in New England has washed out the entire three-game series between the Cleveland Indians and Boston Red Sox.

With the teams desperate to get in at least one game this weekend, today's rescheduled doubleheader was called after a delay of more than three hours, becoming Boston's fourth straight postponement.

According to Boston management, the team was ready to postpone the doubleheader at noon, but had to wait until receiving permission from the Players Association at 4 p.m. EDT.

One of the games will be made up at 6:05 p.m on Monday, June 8, an off day for both clubs. The Indians play in Milwaukee the previous weekend, while the Red Sox will be in the midst of three-game series at Florida and Atlanta.

The postponements on Friday and Saturday have resulted in a five-game series when the Indians return to Boston on September 19. Day-night doubleheaders have been scheduled for September 19 and 20.

The Red Sox have not played since blanking the Detroit Tigers, 10-0, on Wednesday. The final game of that three-game set also was postponed due to rain.

It marks the first time Boston has had four straight postponements since April 24-27, 1976, all at Fenway Park. The Red Sox lost a pair of two-game sets against the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals.

On Monday, Boston begins a series in Texas, while the Indians head to the West Coast to face Seattle.

Pedro Martinez, the scheduled starter in the opener today, tossed on the side and has been pushed back to Tuesday. He has not pitched since defeating Oakland, 14-2, on April 15.

Ramon Martinez, the starter in Game Two today, will open the series at the Ballpark in Arlington. Chuck Finley pitches for the Indians in Seattle on Monday.
