SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Bret Boone is on the kind of streak that is steering him toward his first 100-RBI season. Boone hit a two-run homer and Ryan Klesko also connected, and San Diego benefited from Rolando Arrojo's wildness as the Padres beat Colorado 5-3 Saturday night to end the Rockies' three-game winning streak. Boone hit a two-run homer off Arrojo in the fourth, his 14th of the season and his fifth in nine games. He's driven in 18 runs in the last 10 games and 56 this season. "It seems like I'm driving in a lot of runs and hitting a lot of home runs, but the key to driving in runs is you've got to have guys out there," Boone said. "During this little streak, I've had a lot of guys out there and I've been able to take advantage of it. It's nice when you're able to do that." Boone helped himself the most on the Padres' recent road trip, driving in six runs on three homers in a 10-7 win at Cincinnati on June 23, and driving in five runs in one inning off Orel Hershiser in a 9-5 victory at Los Angeles on Monday. Klesko homered off Mike Myers leading off the eighth, his team-high 18th. Klesko homered for the second time in as many nights and for the seventh time in 11 games. Boone homered for the fifth time in nine games. The Padres have beaten the Rockies 14 times in 17 games in San Diego since June 22, 1997. San Diego's Brian Meadows (7-5) won his second straight start and improved to 3-0 in five career starts against the Rockies. Trevor Hoffman gave up an RBI single in the ninth before getting his 21st save in 24 chances, and 249th of his career. Meadows has struggled on the road, but he improved to 5-2 at home. He got the decision in the 9-5 win at Los Angeles on Monday, which he said came about after a talk with pitching coach Dave Smith. "The biggest thing was getting over the mental hump," Meadows said. "Just don't get down on myself, relax a little bit. I think I was bearing down a little too hard. I actually backed off for a little while and trusted my arm and just threw it. Tonight I did the exact same thing I did against Los Angeles." Jeff Cirillo, back in the Rockies lineup after missing one game with the flu, homered, doubled and scored twice. Boone gave the Padres a 2-0 lead when he homered off Arrojo with two outs in the fourth inning. Al Martin was aboard on a leadoff single. The Rockies pulled to 2-1 in the fifth when Cirillo hit a leadoff double and scored on Todd Helton's single, but the Padres came back in the bottom of the fifth to score twice on just one hit. Arrojo (5-6) could have gotten out of the fifth unscathed, but with two outs and one runner on, he fielded Eric Owens' chopper in front of the mound and his throw pulled first baseman Todd Helton off the bag. Arrojo walked Martin to load the bases, then was called for a balk while facing Klesko to force in Kevin Nicholson and make it 3-1. After Klesko was intentionally walked, Arrojo hit Phil Nevin to force in Owens. "We gave up some runs we normally don't give up," said manager Buddy Bell, who was ejected in the ninth for arguing with umpire Mike DiMuro after Cirillo was called out on strikes. "It was a fundamental breakdown. You have to deal with them." Said Arrojo: "It was my fault. I tried to do too much." Cirillo homered leading off the seventh, his ninth of the season and fourth of the week. He hit a career-high three homers in a 17-13 win against San Francisco on Wednesday. Meadows allowed seven hits and two runs in 6 1/3 innings, struck out one and walked one. Arrojo allowed four hits and four runs in five innings, struck out four and walked two. Game notesRockies LF Larry Walker threw out Ruben Rivera trying to stretch a single into a double in the sixth. ... Cirillo has at least one RBI in seven straight games. ... Dusty Allen made his big league debut when he pinch-hit for Martin in the seventh. He is the eighth Padres player to make his major league debut this season. ... Klesko's homer was the first run allowed by Myers in 34 appearances this year. ... The Rockies' win Friday night was their first in San Diego since Sept. 20, 1998, when Darryl Kile worked 10 innings. Padres right-handed reliever Donne Wall was activated from the 15-day disabled list and right-handed reliever Carlos Almanzar was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas. With Wall active, the Padres have both of their setup men for the first time this season.
