KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Mike Sweeney aims to please. And 100
runs driven in will please his manager.

Sweeney singled and homered Sunday to reach 100 RBIs earlier
than any Royals player ever as Mac Suzuki won at home for the first
time in a 10-5 Kansas City victory over Baltimore.
"My manager, Tony Muser, tells me he doesn't care about batting
average," Sweeney said. "He cares about producing runs and
scoring runs. I like to please my manager."
Sweeney singled home a run and then hit his 19th homer in the
eighth inning, giving him 100 RBIs for the second straight season.
Sweeney reached the mark earlier than Hal McRae, who drove in
his 100th run on Aug. 16, 1982.
"I've been working extra in the batting cage," said Sweeney,
who had been in a slight slump, although he finished Sunday's game
batting .338. "I think I found something in my swing."
Chris Richard hit two home runs for Baltimore and Brook Fordyce
also connected.
Wilson Delgado and Gregg Zaun each had three hits for the
Royals. Kansas City broke open the game with four runs in the third
and five runs in the fourth.
Suzuki, who has become the Royals' most consistent starter, had
gotten all of his victories on the road. Suzuki (6-7) was 0-5 at
home.
Suzuki went 7 1/3 innings, giving up 12 hits and five runs.
Baltimore starter Lesli Brea, making his major league debut
after being recalled Friday from Double-A Bowie, lasted 3 1/3
innings. He was tagged for six runs on seven hits.
"I felt good, real good," Brea said. "In the first two
innings I was ahead of the hitters and making them hit the pitches
I wanted them to hit. Then I started falling behind and I had to
throw strikes and they knew I had to throw strikes. It was just a
lot of little bloopers."
Brea (0-1) was called up when Alan Mills went on the 15-day
disabled list with shoulder inflammation.
In the four-run third, Delgado and Jermaine Dye had run-scoring
singles. Zaun scored when Carlos Febles was hit by a pitch with the
bases loaded and another run came in when Sweeney grounded into a
double play.
The Royals scored five in the fourth on six singles and an RBI
double by Zaun. Delgado, Jeff Reboulet, Sweeney and Joe Randa
singled in runs.
Fordyce, homering for the second straight game, connected in the
second. Richard homered in the fourth and sixth.
Game notes
Baltimore manager Mike Hargrove was ejected by plate umpire
Marvin Hudson when he intervened in a dispute pitcher Chuck McElroy
over a call. ... The Orioles have allowed four or more runs in an
inning 59 times this season.
