HOUSTON (AP) -- After beating the Houston Astros for the second time this year, Milwaukee's Horacio Estrada is trying to make a lasting impression on Brewers management. Estrada (3-0) allowed three runs on five hits and five walks in 5 1/3 innings, helping the Brewers beat the Astros 13-3 Friday night. Estrada was making his first appearance in the majors since May 21. Before being sent down to Triple-A Indianapolis for three months and going 14-4 there, he picked up a victory in two innings of relief against the Astros on May 16. "I had a good season in Triple A and I showed people down there that I can do it up here," Estrada said. "I hope this will give me a big chance next year to make this team. "I'm going home to Venezuela and I'll be ready when spring training comes." Estrada didn't allow a home run to the Astros, who set a National League record with 245. "I had good command through the fifth inning," he said. "I made the correct pitches in some tough situations. I kept the ball down. That's what you have to do in this ballpark because the ball can go out so easy. "I also had good defense behind me. In a game like this you just have to keep throwing strikes." Manager Davey Lopes knew his rookie pitcher was excited. "He did OK," Lopes said. "He was up early, then he settled down. It was OK for his first start in quite a while." The Astros could do nothing right in losing their 90th game. "It begins and ends with pitching," manager Larry Dierker said. "If we were able to protect leads, we'd be in a lot better shape. "And if we could just stop them from scoring more. We scored some runs, but we just kept giving up more runs and that's really discouraging for a team trying to come back." Geoff Jenkins homered twice and Jeromy Burnitz homered and scored four runs, as the Brewers wrapped up third place in the NL Central. Scott Elarton (17-7) lost for the third time in five decisions. In 4 2/3 innings he allowed five runs -- four earned -- on six hits and three walks, striking out five. "I felt strong when I was warming up," Elarton said. "But when I went out there, I just couldn't make the pitches. I don't know what to say." Burnitz scored in the second inning when Raul Casanova was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Burnitz led off the fourth with his 31st home run. One out later, Ron Belliard hit his eighth home run. Belliard's RBI single scored Richie Sexson in the fifth and finished Elarton. Reliever Jose Cabrera gave up Casanova's RBI single, making it 5-0. In the sixth, Jenkins hit his 33rd home run with two outs. Jenkins added a three-run shot in the ninth for his second multihomer game of the season and third of his career. Richard Hidalgo tripled to lead off the Astros' sixth and scored on Lance Berkman's sacrifice fly. Chris Truby hit an RBI double and scored on Tim Bogar's single to make it 6-3 and chase Estrada. Burnitz walked with the bases loaded in the eighth. Tyler Houston followed with a two-run double and Belliard had an RBI groundout. Game notesHouston OF Moises Alou's MRI exam revealed irritation and inflammation in his right shoulder. He received a cortisone injection and is listed day-to-day. ... The Brewers signed their eighth-round draft pick, UCLA outfielder Billy Scott.
