Mets trade 'Pulse' for second time | |||||
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Bill Pulsipher, once considered a
building block for the New York Mets' pitching staff, was traded
Friday to the Arizona Diamondbacks for veteran utility infielder
Lenny Harris.
Pulsipher, who has been back and forth this season between the
Mets and Triple-A, was 0-2 with a 12.15 ERA in New York. He gave up
nine earned runs in his 6 2/3 innings for the Mets with seven
strikeouts and six walks.
When asked if he had a reaction to the fact that Pulsipher has
been traded away twice, Mets manager Bobby Valentine said, "I
don't have any thoughts on that."
Pulsipher was one of the Mets' most promising prospects before
injuries set back his career. The Mets traded him to Milwaukee on
July 31, 1998, and then got him back in a trade after the 1999
season.
Last year with the Brewers, Pulsipher was 5-6 with a 5.98 ERA in
16 starts and three relief appearances. His career record is 13-19
with a 5.04 ERA.
Harris returns for a second stint with the Mets, having played
the second half of the 1998 season in New York after being traded
from Cincinnati. He then started 1999 in Colorado before the
Diamondbacks acquired him last August.
Harris, in his 13th season in the majors, is a .271 career
hitter. In 36 games this season for the Diamondbacks, he hit just
.188. |
