2000 Season
Butch Huskey took advantage of a chance to resurrect his career when a mid-July trade sent him from Minnesota to Colorado. The Twins had sent him to the minor leagues. After initially struggling when he joined the Rockies, Huskey finished strong, hitting .441 in September and finishing with a .348 average in 45 games following the swap.
Hitting, Baserunning & Defense
Huskey has a big swing and can drive the ball. He gets himself in trouble when he tries to pull everything. Pitchers will work him away, resulting in too many groundballs to short. He does, however, have enough strength to drive the ball the other way when he is patient. A former football player who turned down a football scholarship to Oklahoma, Huskey is a below-average runner. He can play left and right field, as well as third and first base, but his real value is with a bat in his hands, not a glove.
2001 Outlook
Huskey can provide a team with a righthanded threat off the bench. He plays enough positions to have value as a fifth outfielder or backup infielder on the corners, but doesn't show the defensive consistency to earn an everyday opportunity.
