Scouting Report
1999 Season Brian Banks' versatility enabled him to spend the entire 1999 season on the Brewers' major league roster. As a switch-hitter with the ability to catch and play first base and the outfield, he proved to be fairly useful.
Hitting, Baserunning & Defense Banks is a decent hitter with a little pop. He has shown more power from the right side in the minors but hasn't yet shown much of a platoon differential in the majors. Banks sometimes has trouble making contact and is especially vulnerable with two strikes. He's rough behind the plate and basestealers took full advantage of his inexperience last year, swiping 27 bases in 28 attempts. He has enough mobility to get by at either corner outfield spot and didn't embarrass himself at first base. His speed is average.
2000 Outlook Banks may need to improve his work behind the plate in order to retain his spot on Milwaukee's bench. If the Brewers can't use him as a catcher, there isn't much that sets him apart from other reserve candidates.
