Scouting Report

2000 Season
The Brewers acquired John Snyder from the White Sox in January, hoping he could regain the form he displayed in early 1999 before arm problems and elbow surgery ruined his season. He began the 2000 campaign on the disabled list with a strained oblique muscle and was hit hard when activated in May. He turned it around and pitched well until the All-Star break, but he was continually lit up the rest of the year. He was winless in his final 16 starts.

Pitching, Defense & Hitting
Snyder doesn't have great stuff or command. He has a below-average fastball, a sinking two-seamer, an overhand curve, a slider and a changeup. He often pitches from behind in the count, and walks frequently hurt him. He also struggled badly with men on base. Holding runners is not a strength of his. In his first year as a hitter, he went 3-for-38 with only one successful sacrifice.

2001 Outlook
The Brewers must like something about Snyder, because they stuck with him last year long after most teams would have pulled the plug. Snyder has shown no signs of coming around, but the Brewers have shown no signs of giving up on him. It's hard to say how long the stalemate will continue.
