ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) _ Darrell Armstrong had 27 points and 10 assists and the Orlando Magic maintained their hold on the eighth playoff position in the Eastern Conference with a 103-90 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night. Atlanta closed Orlando's lead to 89-80 on a layup by Dion Glover with 6:24 remaining, but the Magic maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way. John Amaechi scored 16 points and Ron Mercer added 15, while Ben Wallace had 16 rebounds for Orlando. The Magic shot 45.5 percent from the field and made 21 of 28 free throws. Hawks center Dikembe Mutombo only played 14 minutes after getting two fouls in the first quarter. His replacement, Lorenzen Wright, scored 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting to keep Mutombo on the bench. Glover and Chris Crawford also came off the bench to score 18 points each for Atlanta. The Hawks were just 1 of 12 on 3-point attempts and 17 of 30 on free throws. Atlanta has lost 12 of its last 15 games. The Magic improved to 19-13 at home, where it plays its next seven consecutive games. Orlando used a 25-15 third quarter to pull ahead 80-70. Armstrong sparked the Magic with 13 points in the quarter, including a layup at the 2:01 mark that gave Orlando a 12-point lead, 79-67. Armstrong made six of nine attempts in the quarter. The Magic began the game on a 13-2 run and led the entire way until Glover made a layup with 24.4 seconds remaining before the half that tied it, 55-55. Atlanta trailed by as many as 10 points in the second quarter but made 15 of 23 field goal attempts to close Orlando's lead. Notes: Orlando had 28 fastbreak points while Atlanta had 17. ... Glover's 18 points were a season high.
