CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) _ Eddie Jones scored 26 points and Derrick Coleman and David Wesley added 22 apiece as the Charlotte Hornets shot a season-best 56 percent in a 119-103 victory over the New Jersey Nets on Wednesday night. Anthony Mason contributed 17 points as the Hornets recorded their highest point and assist (37) totals of the season and ended a three-game losing streak. Stephon Marbury paced New Jersey with 23 points, while Kendall Gill and Keith Van Horn had 17 each as the Nets lost for only the second time in seven games. An 8-0 run midway through the third quarter gave Charlotte an 81-65 lead. The advantage reached 21 points three times in the quarter, the last at 96-75 on Wesley's 3-pointer with 1:07 left. With a season-high 65 points, the Hornets built a nine-point halftime lead on 63 percent shooting (24-of-38). Wesley hit all five of his shots, none from closer than 18 feet, in the first quarter. Van Horn kept New Jersey within range with 15 first-half points on 6-of-7 shooting. Late in the second period, the Nets twice trimmed Charlotte's advantage to four, the last coming at 57-53 on a Van Horn layup with 1:53 left. But with two baskets from Coleman, who led Charlotte with 14 points in the first half, the Hornets closed the first half with an 8-3 run. Notes: Coleman was fined $7,500 by the NBA on Wednesday for a flagrant foul against Philadelphia's Toni Kukoc in the second quarter of the Hornets' 102-96 Monday night loss to the Sixers. ... Van Horn failed to reach 20 points for only the third time in 10 career appearances against Charlotte. Marbury reached 20 for the seventh time in eight games against the Hornets.
