CHICAGO (AP) _ Kevin Garnett made 12 of 13 shots from the field and scored 27 points Tuesday night as the Minnesota Timberwolves snapped a four-game losing streak with an 84-70 exhibition victory over the Chicago Bulls.

Terrell Brandon added 13 points and 10 assists for Minnesota, which won in the United Center for the first time in five tries.

Ron Artest scored 14 points for the Bulls, who lost their fifth straight preseason game.

Minnesota led 41-37 at halftime and opened the second half with a 12-0 run to break the game open. Garnett finished the spurt with a two-handed reverse dunk with 6:52 left in the third quarter.

``Kevin has really had a phenomenal exhibition season,'' said Minnesota coach Flip Saunders. ``He's so much more confident in his own ability, and his strength is a lot better.

``At times, it's like a man playing against boys out there because he can be so dominating at times.''

Garnett, who played at Farragut Academy in Chicago, also had six rebounds and two steals.

``Anytime I come to Chicago, I want to play hard and have a good game,'' Garnett said. ``That was my whole mindset tonight.''

Elton Brand scored Chicago's first points of the second half on a dunk with 6:37 left in the third quarter. But Brandon sank a 15-foot jumper, and Wally Szczerbiak hit a jumper in the lane to give Minnesota a 57-39 lead.

The Bulls scored only 10 points in the third quarter, making just 4-of-21 from the field.

``We played frustrated offensively,'' said Chicago coach Tim Floyd. ``We are not functioning well with guys going to the wrong places that put us in bad situations. We have guys who are still learning and will continue to learn.''

Garnett went 8-of-9 from the field in the first half and scored 17 points. His dunk with 4:01 left in the second quarter gave Minnesota its biggest lead of the half, 37-26.

Chicago's Toni Kukoc missed his third straight preseason game because of tendinitis in his right knee.

Minnesota beat the Bulls for only the second time in 22 meetings.

``You've got to think about Michael (Jordan) when you come in here,'' Garnett said. ``You've got to think about Jordan, you've got to think about (Scottie) Pippen. All of that goes through my head because I was here when those guys were playing and played against those guys when they were on top.''
