Defensively, they are solid. Offensively, they perhaps rely on the perimeter game too much and then don't score a lot of inside. I'm not sure how mentally tough the Cowboys are, but they do have seven seniors. Along with Mason, Joe Adkins can shoot, and Glendon Alexander is a terrific outside shooter off the bench. Center Brian Montonati has developed into a solid player, averaging 13 points and seven rebounds a night. He is a face-up player who will shoot from 12 feet.
Point guard Doug Gottlieb is terrific with the ball, but he can't score very well. He sees the floor and is one of the most outstanding passers I've seen in college basketball in a long time. He gives it to the shooters in the right spot at the right time. If the Cowboys get into a game that is up and down the floor, they can be explosive. In a halfcourt set, Gottlieb isn't as effective. You try to make him either shoot or finish, because he doesn't shoot well from the field or the line. Eddie Sutton will take him out in the final minutes of a game because he can't make free throws.
Their defense is solid, but they can be worn down by a tougher, more mentally physical team. With seven seniors, who have been through every situation. Oklahoma State has a chance to make it to the Sweet 16. -- Jon Sundvold
