Five burning questions in the West

ESPN.com asked Ann Meyers to break down the West Region and predict which team would reach the Final Four. Here's how ESPN's analyst answered our five questions:

1. Has Georgia shown any weakness?

Getting physical with Georgia, particularly its guards, can affect the Lady Bulldogs. Also, North Carolina might be a bit more athletic.

2. How does North Carolina match up defensively against Georgia's backcourt and post players?

The Tar Heels aren't really tall, but they can jump and play good defense. Jackie Higgins has a 29-inch vertical and is very quick. And when the opposition tries to lob the ball inside, Higgins goes up and gets it. UNC has struggled in the paint, however, against physical post players, so we'll have to see how Georgia's 6-foot-4 Tawana McDonald comes out.

Inside, UNC does have 6-5 LaShonda Allen and 6-4 Jackie Myers, although neither have been getting that many minutes. That could change against Georgia.

As for the guards, Juana Brown is a solid defensive specialist, and will probably match up with Kelly Miller.

But if UNC wins this game, the Tar Heels will have to play like they did against Rice, and not the way they came out against Maine. Against Rice, their weak-side defense was excellent.

3. We know about Deanna Jackson. But what X-factor does UAB carry into the Sweet 16?

Deanna's sister, Lisa Jackson, a senior point guard. She brings experience, composure and solid ball-handling. At the end of the game against Mississippi State, when Lisa was sidelined with a right knee sprain, the Lady Blazers almost gave the game up and were starting to panic and turn the ball over. That doesn't happen when she's on the court.

4. UAB is averaging 79.5 points. Can Rutgers' typically tight defense slow down the Blazers, and if not, can Rutgers' offense keep up?

I see Rutgers, which has one of the best defenses in the country, slowing down UAB. A lot also depends on whether Lisa Jackson can play, but regardless, Rutgers, with the experience it brings into the playoffs, has the advantage. As for offense, Rutgers' outside shooting helps even things out.

5. Which West team makes it to the Final Four?

North Carolina, even though the Tar Heels are a No. 5 seed and have had a lot to overcome. If Nikki Teasley comes to play, teams will have a tough time beating them.
