The Jaguars head north to East Rutherford for the second time this year (Jacksonville dropped a 27-20 decision to the Giants this summer) as these clubs collide for the second straight year and the fourth time in 5 years as the Green and White plays host to Monday Night Football for the first time since 1992. Including playoffs, the Jets have prevailed in two of the three previous encounters, the latest a 34-24 triumph in the 1998 AFC Divisional Playoffs at the Meadowlands. The Jags managed a 21-17 win in 1996 at ALLTEL Stadium the last time the two teams met. The Jaguars' only previous regular-season road tilt in this series resulted in a 27-10 loss in '95 at Giants Stadium. Including playoffs, the home team has prevailed in all three previous meetings dating back to '95. Numbers: Including playoffs, the Jaguars have forced 38 turnovers in 15 wins, eight turnovers in seven losses dating back to '98. Including playoffs, the Jets have allowed just 189 points in 14 wins (17 or fewer points in 11 of those contests) while giving up 211 points in 8 losses in their last 21 games dating back to '98. They have committed just 18 turnovers in 14 wins, 23 turnovers in 8 losses dating back to '98, including playoffs. Things To Look For: Although no one is surprised that the Jaguars are off to another start, Tom Coughlin has to be concerned with an offensive unit that has been stagnant most of the season. It's easy to envision the Jags breaking loose against a Jets' defensive unit that has its share of injury problems, but look for Bill Parcells to once again turn loose RB Curtis Martin against a improving but suspect Jacksonville defense. Etc.: The Jaguars are making their first of two Monday night appearances this season and are 3-0 lifetime on Monday Night Football, all 3 of those previous appearances at home. The Jets are making their first of three Monday night appearances this season and are just 10-16 lifetime on Monday Night Football, including 6-4 at home. The .Jaguars are 30-11 in their last 41 regular-season games (33-14, including playoffs) dating back to 1996, this after managing just an 8-19 record in their first 27 contests dating back to their debut season in 1995. Including playoffs, the Jaguars are 41-33 in their 74-game history (1995-99), 22-12 vs. the AFC Central and just 19-21 vs. the rest of the NFL (3-2 in playoffs). |
