TORONTO (Ticker) -- Rem Murray's power-play goal 3:38 into the third period snapped a tie and Bill Ranford stopped 20 shots, lifting the Edmonton Oilers to a 2-1 exhibition victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. With Toronto's Steve Thomas serving a high-sticking penalty, Murray redirected Doug Weight's pass by Curtis Joseph from the top of the crease for his first preseason goal. Ryan Smyth tallied in the opening period for Edmonton, which improved to 4-2-0 in exhibition play. The Oilers are still without holdouts Roman Hamrlik, Bill Guerin and Mike Grier. Daniil Markov scored a power-play goal with 5:19 left in the second period for the Maple Leafs, who dropped to 2-3-0 in the preseason. Toronto rested captain Mats Sundin and left wing Sergei Berezin. Joseph went the distance for the Leafs, stopping 18 shots.
