TORONTO (Ticker) -- Fredrik Modin scored 2:15 into overtime as the Toronto Maple Leafs rallied for a wild 4-3 exhibition victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

Modin worked a give-and-go with Ladislav Kohn, taking a return pass at the left goalpost and directing is past goaltender Kevin Weekes for the winner.

Mark Messier lifted Vancouver into a 3-3 tie with 1:09 remaining in regulation when his slap shot from the right faceoff circle went over Curtis Joseph's shoulder into the top left corner of the net. Messier also had two assists.

Yanic Perreault gave Toronto a 3-2 lead just 94 seconds earlier when he one-timed a pass from rookie defenseman Dmitri Yakushin over a sprawled Weekes.

Sergei Berezin added his fourth preseason goal and Mike Johnson scored shorthanded for the Leafs, who improved to 5-4.

Markus Naslund and Bill Muckalt also tallied for the Canucks, one of four winless teams at 0-5-2.

Alyn McCauley was expected to return from post-concussion syndrome for Toronto, but was a late scratched after results of an examination by were inconclusive. McCauley, who suffered a severe concussion on March 3, is scheduled to be re-evaluated over the next few days.
