TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- The Tampa Bay Lightning finally notched a win against Detroit.

Chris Gratton and Darcy Tucker scored within 66 seconds early in the third period Sunday night to lead the Lightning, the NHL's worst team the past two seasons, to a surprising 3-2 victory over the Red Wings.

The Lightning snapped a 10-game winless streak (0-9-1) against Detroit with their first victory since Jan. 12, 1994. The last time Tampa Bay beat Detroit at home was Nov. 11, 1992, ending a nine-game (0-8-1) winless drought.

"You never want to get like that on the bench, but you said 'wow,' this was a great game," Tampa Bay coach Steve Ludzik said. "It kept going back and forth."

Gratton scored a rebound goal from the slot 55 seconds into the third period during a two-man advantage to break a 1-1 tie. Tucker added his goal just seconds after the power play ended.

Steve Yzerman scored his 48th career short-handed goal for the Red Wings. The Detroit center now has 1,493 points and moved within one point of tying former Pittsburgh Penguins star Mario Lemieux for seventh place on the career list.

Tampa Bay, who scored six straight goals in a 7-4 win Saturday night at Pittsburgh, got 31 saves from former Red Wings goalie Kevin Hodson in his first start of the season.

"To come back from three goals and beat Jaromir Jagr and the Pittsburgh Penguins in Pittsburgh was a big boost to our team," Hodson said. "It carried over tonight and we played with a lot of intensity. It's a great, great feeling."

The loss to the Lightning apparently did not sit well with Detroit coach Scotty Bowman. When asked after the game for an interview, Bowman declined.

Yzerman scored during a first period breakaway. The Detroit center, who has 14 goals and 36 points in 19 games against Tampa Bay, put a wrist shot between Hodson's pads.

Tampa Bay tied it at 1-1 late in the second period on a Fredrik Modin goal. Vincent Lecavalier assisted on the tally and extended his point streak to six games (five goals, one assist).

Detroit's Sergei Fedorov had a third-period goal, giving him 13 in 16 games against the Lightning.

Hodson preserved the one-goal lead with two minutes left by robbing Fedorov from in close.

"The last two minutes took about 20 for me," Hodson said.

Detroit's Brendan Shanahan received a match penalty for attempt to injure during an altercation Tucker as the game ended. Tucker was given a two-minute minor penalty for cross checking.
