BOX SCORE
BOSTON (AP) -- When Steve Yzerman scores, the Detroit Red Wings are almost unbeatable. Yzerman scored for the fifth consecutive game and Vyacheslav Kozlov scored two goals as the Detroit Red Wings beat the Boston Bruins 5-4 on Saturday night.
Since 1995, the Red Wings are 88-17-10 when Yzerman scores at least once. Yzerman scored his 14th of the season at 16:23 of the third on a power play to make it 5-3, and leads the team in scoring with 29 points. With the score tied 3-3, Steve Duchesne scored the go-ahead goal at 9:38 of the third period, when his slap shot beat Bruins goalie Byron Dafoe. The Bruins cut the lead to 5-4, when Anson Carter scored during a two-man advantage with 22 seconds remaining. The Bruins are 0-4-2 in their last six, and have not won at home since a victory over the New York Rangers on Nov. 21. "I don't care if the Lord is behind the bench and Moses is the general manager," Bruins coach Pat Burns said. "If our top line is not scoring, we can't win." Red Wings goalie Manny Legace made 25 saves and has won all three of his starts since being recalled from the minors earlier in the month. "I was surprised to get the start," Legace said. "To come up and get three wins in the NHL does a lot for your confidence." Kozlov's second goal of the game tied it 3-3. He took a pass from defenseman Larry Murphy, and wristed a shot past Dafoe at 5:11 of the third period. Nicklas Lidstrom had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings, and Murphy and Sergei Fedorov each had two assists. Kozlov's power-play goal put Detroit ahead 1-0, when he took a shot from the side of the net that bounced off the right pad of Dafoe at 3:34 of the first period. McLaren tied the game 1:17 later on a breakaway, when he scored through Legace's pads. "It is easy to lose yourself playing against that type of talent," McLaren said. The Red Wings regained the lead when a slap shot by Lidstrom went over Dafoe's shoulder at 11:03 of the first. Dafoe, who made 27 saves for the Bruins, has struggled since ending his holdout. He is 6-5-3 and has allowed 12 goals the last three games. Joe Thornton scored a goal and added an assist for Boston. Detroit is 5-1 in its last six, and is one of only two existing NHL franchises including Montreal, that have a winning all-time record against the Bruins.
