SEATTLE (AP) _ Jay Buhner hit a two-run homer and Edgar Martinez drove in three runs in the Seattle Mariners' 9-5 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night. Gil Meche struck out a career-high eight batters to pick up his first victory of the season for the Mariners, who have outscored the Twins 23-5 in the first two games of the series. Buhner, off to a strong start after two injury-filled seasons, hit his eighth homer in the first inning off Sean Bergman (2-2) after Martinez hit a two-run double. Meche (1-4), who won eight games for Seattle last season after being called up in July, pitched 6 2-3 innings, allowed three runs on six hits and walked two. Bergman, who got hit on the left shin by Alex Rodriguez's hard grounder in the first, went 3 1-3 innings and gave up nine runs on eight hits and five walks. The Twins scored their first run in the third when Cristian Guzman walked and Jay Canizaro hit a double. Guzman scored on Matt Lawton's sacrifice fly to make it 4-1. In the bottom of the third, Martinez had an RBI single, giving him eight RBIs in two nights. He had two homers and five RBIs in a 14-0 victory Monday night. In the fourth, David Bell hit a two-run double and Rodriguez hit a two-run single to give Seattle a 9-1 lead. Butch Huskey and Jacque Jones each hit doubles to lead off the seventh for Minnesota's second run. Pinch-hitter Denny Hocking singled off Arthur Rhodes for the Twins' third run. Minnesota's Ron Coomer, who went 3-for-5, homered off Jose Paniagua in the eighth, and added an RBI single off Jose Mesa in the ninth. Notes: Buhner hit his 28th homer against Minnesota, his second-highest career total against one team. He has 29 against Oakland. ... The Mariners sent 10 men to the plate in the fourth, the second time they batted around in two games. ... Bell has hit safely in seven of his last eight, all multihit games. ... Rodriguez has a 12-game hitting streak. His career-best hitting streak is 20, set in 1996. ... John Olerud walked four times. ... The Twins have issued 16 walks in the first two games of the series. ... Seattle moved back into first place in the AL West, while Minnesota suffered its fourth straight loss. ...
