MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee Brewers manager Davey Lopes was happy to be on the winning end of a 16-inning game. Henry Blanco hit a fly ball that was dropped, allowing Marquis Grissom to score the winning run in the Brewers' 6-5 victory over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night. "When you're playing that long, you want to win the ballgame," Lopes said. "It's a very difficult task, but it makes it even worse when you lose and you play that long and that hard." Grissom hit an infield single off Chris Holt (1-6) to lead off the bottom of the inning. After Jose Hernandez struck out, Lyle Mouton hit a single to right and Grissom moved to third. Blanco's fly was dropped by Roger Cedeno at the right-field line and Grissom scored to win it for the Brewers, who left 19 on base. Blanco was credited with a sacrifice fly. Horacio Estrada (2-0) pitched two innings, allowed two walks and no hits. Holt pitched 1 2/3 innings in the loss. "This game is devastating for us," said Houston manager Larry Dierker, who was ejected in the 13th inning by plate umpire Mike Winters. "We used everybody up against the Reds and we used them up even more in this game. We don't have anything left for the next couple games. If we could have won it, it would have been an inspirational situation." Houston tagged reliever David Weathers for three consecutive singles to open the eighth to tie it 5-5. Jeff Bagwell led off with a single and moved to third on Ken Caminiti's single. Moises Alou singled home the tying run. Blanco's two-run homer off Astros starter Shane Reynolds in the fourth gave Milwaukee a 5-4 lead. "I just got a pitch right there," Blanco said. "It was a high fastball, so I was just trying to put in play. I hit it pretty good. I made good contact and the ball went out." The Astros snapped a 3-3 tie in the top of the fourth on Mitch Meluskey's RBI double off the glove of center fielder Grissom. The Brewers erased a 3-1 deficit with two runs in the third. Ron Belliard walked with one out and Mark Loretta followed with an RBI double. Loretta scored from third on Grissom's two-out single. Houston took a 3-0 lead in the second on a two-run homer by Alou, his fifth, and a two-out solo homer by Tim Bogar. Mouton homered in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-1. Game notesRHP John Snyder, on the DL since March 28 with a strained left oblique muscle, will be activated and is scheduled to make his first start Saturday for the Brewers. Snyder, 9-12 last season with the White Sox, was acquired with Jaime Navarro for pitcher Cal Eldred and shortstop Jose Valentin. ... RHP Jamey Wright, on the 15-day DL with a partially torn rotator cuff, made his first rehab start Tuesday night at Triple-A Indianapolis, allowing five runs -- one earned -- on eight hits in five innings, striking out seven and walking three. Wright was acquired from Colorado during the offseason as part of a four-team, nine-player trade. ... The game lasted 5 hours and 39 minutes. ... A total of 10 pinch-hitters were used. ... Sean Berry's eighth-inning pinch-single snapped his 0-for-13 streak as a pinch-hitter. ...
