BOX SCORE
BILOXI, Mississippi (Ticker) -- Rookie Michal Sivek's goal with 7:41 remaining gave the Washington Capitals a 2-1 exhibition victory over the Nashville Predators. Sivek, one of the Capitals' four second-round picks in the 1999 draft, fired a point shot past Corey Hirsch for his first preseason goal, helping Washington improve to 2-0. Martin Brochu and Sebastien Charpentier combined for 29 saves for the Capitals. Brochu turned aside all 21 shots he faced before Charpentier came on to start the third period. He surrendered Rich Brennan's power-play goal at 1:26, lifting Nashville into a 1-1 tie. Washington grabbed a 1-0 lead late in the second period on Alexandre Volchkov's first preseason tally. The fourth overall pick in the 1996 draft, Volchkov has been a disappointment in two seasons in the minors. First-round pick Brian Finley got the start for the Predators and stopped all nine shots he faced before Hirsch replaced him midway through the second period. The game drew an estimated 5,000 fans to the Mississippi Coast Coliseum, home of the East Coast Hockey League champion Mississippi Sea Wolves.
