Shanahan, who will miss Wednesday's game with Dallas and Friday's contest against Pittsburgh, will forfeit $39,593 in salary.

Shanahan was assessed a match penalty for intent to injury when he and Lightning forward Darcy Tucker got into it at the final horn of Sunday's 3-2 loss. Tucker was not suspended.

Shanahan is fourth on the Wings in scoring with five goals and four assists in 14 games.

The Red Wings recalled Marc Rodgers from the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League to fill in for Shanahan. In eight games with Manitoba, Rodgers has a goal, four assists and 13 penalty minutes.
