Oni, Yates lead Yale past South Carolina State, 86-54

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Miye Oni scored 20 points and Noah Yates added another 16 off the bench as Yale used a fast start to beat South Carolina State, 86-54 and break into the win column Tuesday night after dropping games to Creighton and Wisconsin over the opening weekend.

The Bulldogs raced through the first half, building a 53-22 advantage and cruised home.

Yale shot 25 of 57 from the field, but knocked down 13 of 37 shots from behind the arc and was 23 of 35 from the line.

South Carolina State was just 17 of 57 shooting from the floor (29.8 percent) and hit just 1 of 11 from deep. The Bulldogs hit 19 of 32 from the free throw line.

Yale currently is without captain Makai Mason and Jordan Bruner, both projected starters, due to injury.

South Carolina State (0-3) opened the season with losses to Wisconsin and Boston College.
