Old Dominion wins first C-USA title, edges UTSA 65-64

SAN ANTONIO -- Ahmad Caver had 13 points and 10 assists as Old Dominion won its first regular-season Conference USA title with a 65-64 victory over UTSA on Thursday night.

The Monarchs have won 12 of their last 13 games, with their only loss during the stretch coming against UTSA on Jan. 26. The Roadrunners rallied from an 18-point deficit in the first matchup. The title is also the first for the Monarchs since winning the Colonial Athletic Association crown in 2010.

B.J. Stith scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Old Dominion (23-6, 13-3 Conference USA). Xavier Green added 14 points.

Jhivvan Jackson scored 21 points and Keaton Wallace had 19 for UTSA (15-13, 9-6).

Wallace, who had 29 points against the Monarchs in the first game, hit a 3-pointer that tied the game 60-60 with 3:03 to play. Stith made a pair of free throws and Caver added a jumper to give Old Dominion a 64-60 lead with just under two minutes remaining.

Giovanni De Nicolao's layup pulled the Roadrunners to 64-62 with 10 seconds left. Green split a pair of free throws before Jackson made a layup at the buzzer.
