Shrews net Shrimps win
Shrewsbury reignited their promotion charge with a convincing 4-1 victory over 10-man Morecambe.Morecambe took the lead after 28 minutes against the run of play through an excellent Jack Redshaw strike from 12 yards but the visitors hit back with two goals in the space of as many minutes before half-time.Connor Goldson levelled for Shrewsbury after 33 minutes when he got the finishing touch to a goalmouth scramble after Andreas Arestidou had saved smartly from Bobby Grant and Ryan Edwards had cleared off the line from Liam Lawrence. The Shrews went ahead shortly afterwards when James Collins volleyed past Arestidou from 12 yards after the home defence failed to deal with an excellent cross from Jermaine Grandison. The home side were reduced to 10 men early in the second half when goalkeeper Arestidou hacked down Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro outside the box and received a straight red card. From there Shrewsbury were happy to keep possession and made the most of the space available without threatening teenage keeper Tom Stewart too often on his Football League debut.Stewart made a good save to deny Goldson a second goal but he could do nothing to stop the visitors adding a third with the goal of the game six minutes from time. Left-back Grandison went on a mazy run into the Morecambe area and waltzed past two weak challenges before curling an effort past Stewart.Substitute Tyrone Barnett wrapped up proceedings with an injury-time strike after the Shrimps lost the ball in the middle of the park and were undone by a swift counter attack.
