TUCSON, Arizona (Ticker) -- David Newhan homered and drove in three runs and Dave Magadan had three RBI, leading the San Diego Padres to a 9-3 victory over a split squad of Chicago White Sox in a Cactus League game. Newhan also scored two runs and Magadan had one hit and a sacrifice fly. Gary Matthews Jr., John Roskos and Eric Owens all had two hits for the Padres, who collected 10 hits. Buddy Carlyle picked up the win with one inning of hitless relief, walking two. Padres starter Brian Meadows worked 4 1/3 innings, giving up four runs -- three earned -- and six hits, striking out three. Magglio Ordonez slugged his seventh home run of the spring and J.R. Phillips also homered for Chicago, both shots coming off Meadows. Ray Durham had two hits, including a triple. Jason Dellaero, Mark Johnson and Jackie Rexrode all went 2-for-2. Chicago starter Mike Sirotka allowed four runs and seven hits over 4 2/3 innings, striking out one and walking two. Bob Howry gave up three hits, two walks and one run in the seventh and took the loss.
