TUCSON, Arizona (Ticker) -- Turner Ward homered twice and drove in four runs, lifting the Arizona Diamondbacks to an 8-6 Cactus League victory over a split-squad of Milwaukee Brewers.

Bidding to make the Diamondbacks as a reserve outfielder, Ward hit a solo homer in the seventh inning and added a three-run blast in the next frame that gave Arizona a 7-5 advantage.

Diamondbacks starter Randy Johnson recovered from a horrible outing to allow three runs and six hits over 5 1/3 innings, walking two and striking out six. Five days ago against Anaheim, "The Big Unit" was torched for 11 runs and 12 hits in three-plus innings.

Lenny Harris added three hits for the Diamondbacks.

Milwaukee starter Horacio Estrada surrendered one run and four hits in three innings.

Bobby Hughes had two hits, including a solo homer for the Brewers.
