MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The league-leading Los Angeles Lakers hope to match the second-longest winning streak in franchise history tonight when they visit the Milwaukee Bucks.
Kobe Bryant scored 30 points for the Lakers, who won 16 in a row during the 1990-91 campaign, the last time they made the NBA Finals. In 1971-72, Los Angeles reeled off 33 consecutive victories, the longest winning streak in the history of professional sports. The Lakers are 3 1/2 games ahead of second-place Portland in the Pacific and have not lost since a since a 103-91 setback at Sacramento on December 8. They have won 22 of their last 23, dating to November 21. The Bucks enter the game with a modest two-game winning streak and have won their last six at the Bradley Center since a 101-99 setback to Denver on December 11. Ray Allen scored 26 points as Milwaukee handed Charlotte its worst loss in franchise history, 137-87, here on Monday. Milwaukee shot a scorching season-best 64 percent (55-of-86) from the field and set a franchise record with 13 3-pointers in 23 attempts, improving to 12-5 overall at home. Milwaukee has dropped seven straight to Los Angeles and has not beaten the Lakers since November 5, 1994.
