DENVER (Ticker) -- The Seattle Supersonics look to win their third straight game and second in as many nights when they visit the Denver Nuggets.
Payton played 43 minutes, made 10-of-21 shots, grabbed four rebounds and committed just one turnover. He directed a balanced attack as Brent Barry score 21 points off the bench and Ruben Patterson added 17. Seattle's offense has been explosive of late, scoring at least 100 points in five of its last six games, but the defense has surrendered at least 90 in 10 of the last 11 contests. The Sonics have won two straight against the Nuggets, including a 109-84 victory in the first meeting this season on December 14 in Seattle. Denver was no match for the red-hot Lakers on Monday, dropping a 130-95 decision for its fourth loss in the last six games. Antonio McDyess scored 23 points, Ron Mercer added 18 and former Laker Nick Van Exel 17 for Denver, which shot 44 percent (37-of-85) from the field and was outrebounded, 59-38. The Nuggets, who own a 14-5 record at home, already have surpassed their victory total of last season when they went 14-36 in the lockout-shortened campaign.
