VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- The Vancouver Canucks
look to snap a five-game winless streak when they host the
slumping Edmonton Oilers tonight.
Vancouver is just 1-8-3 against Northwest Division opponents. Its lone divisional win came in overtime against Edmonton on December 2. If there has been a bright spot for the Canucks, it is their power play. The unit has scored with the man advantage in each of the last three games while going 5-of-12 during that stretch. Edmonton continued its struggle in overtime on Monday, suffering a 3-2 home setback to Nashville. The Oilers dropped to 0-7-13 in the extra session and are four games shy of the NHL record for most overtime games in a season, set by Philadelphia in 1998-99. The Oilers are in third place in the division, two points behind Calgary and six in back of first-place Colorado. Todd Marchant has provided a spark to the Edmonton offense lately, recording four goals and six assists during his seven-game points streak. The teams split a home-and-home series in early December before skating to a 3-3 tie in the most recent meeting on Saturday.
