RALEIGH, North Carolina -- The Carolina Hurricanes seek their third straight win and second in as many nights when they host the surging Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday night.
Carolina has won consecutive games since a season-high five-game losing streak, posting a 4-1 victory over Buffalo on Saturday before following it up with a 3-2 overtime win against Montreal on Monday. Rod Brind'Amour, acquired Sunday from Philadelphia for holdout Keith Primeau, made his Carolina debut on Monday and was a minus-1 with one shot while playing on a line with Gary Roberts and Jeff O'Neill. The Hurricanes' power-play production has led to the two wins. After going 3-for-28 during a seven-game stretch, they have scored four in nine chances, including a 3-for-5 effort in the Buffalo win. Carolina's defense has also improved in recent games, surrendering an average of 19 per game. Phoenix also has won three straight and is 4-1-1 in its last six while maintaining first place in the Pacific Division. The Coyotes have won the first two games of their homestand, including a 3-2 overtime victory against division-rival San Jose on Sunday. Phoenix enters tonight's contest one point ahead of Dallas in the Pacific race and owns the third-best total in the Western Conference with 56 points. Recent trade rumors have not affected Keith Tkachuk's performance on the ice as the left wing has produced four goals and two assists in his last six games. The Coyotes have not lost to the Hurricanes since moving from
Winnipeg prior to the 1996-97 season, posting a 3-0-2 mark. The
teams skated to a 5-5 tie in the only meeting last season.
