BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- A pair of slumping Eastern
Conference teams look to snap significant losing streaks tonight
when the Buffalo Sabres host the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The reason for the most recent skid could be centered around a lack of offense. Buffalo has produced only one goal in each of the last two games and five in the last three. The Sabres' own the worst power-play mark in the NHL and have not shown any signs of rebounding. Including an 0-for-4 performance on Saturday, Buffalo dropped to 3-for-27 in its last six games and 22-for-214 (10.3 percent) on the season with the man advantage. Since recording a hat trick at Ottawa on January 8, Buffalo leading goal scorer Miroslav Satan has tallied only once in six games. That happened in the Sabres last win, a 5-0 victory at Anaheim on January 17. Tampa Bay has lost five straight and is just 1-15-2 in its last 18 games. Only expansion Atlanta has kept the Lightning out of last place in the Southeast Division, but the gap is only one point. Goaltender Dan Cloutier returned from a four-game suspension on Monday, but could not stop the bleeding, allowing all the goals in an 8-2 loss to the Washington Capitals. The Lightning have won two of three games against the Sabres this season, but lost their only trip to upstate New York.
