BOX SCORE
TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- Bill Houlder's power play goal with just over eight minutes remaining broke a tie and lifted the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 3-2 exhibition victory over the Florida Panthers. Houlder skated into the offensive zone on a 4-on-2 break before cutting towards the net and sliding the puck past Trevor Kidd for the eventual game-winner. Ryan Johnson had tied the game for Florida at 9:32 of the third period when he received a pass from Dan Boyle in the slot and shot it past Daren Puppa. Puppa looked solid in goal for Tampa Bay, turning aside 29 shots. Puppa, who appeared in just 45 games over the last three seasons because of back injuries, made several kick saves over the last few minutes to preserve the win. Petr Svoboda and Mike Sillinger had goals and Chris Gratton added two assists for the Lightning, who improved their preseason mark to 5-4. Oleg Kvasha tallied the other goal for Florida, which at 0-4-1 is one of four remaining winless teams in exhibition play.
