ALBANY, New York (Ticker) -- Sergei Nemchinov and Sergei Brylin scored 12 seconds apart to trigger a five-goal second period as the New Jersey Devils coasted to a 6-1 exhibition rout of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Steve Brule collected a goal and two assists and Nemchinov, John Madden and Brylin added one of each for New Jersey, which improved to 4-2-0 in the preseason. Nemchinov scored a power-play goal 93 seconds into the second period before Brylin's goal gave the Devils a 3-0 lead. Brule tallied shorthanded at 9:42 and Jason Arnott's second preseason goal with 6:04 left in the period made it 5-0. Eric Bertrand netted his third 55 seconds later. John Slaney scored the lone goal for Pittsburgh, which dropped to 1-4 in exhibition play. The Penguins played without superstar right wing Jaromir Jagr. Martin Brodeur stopped all eight shots over the first half of the game and Chris Terreri made five saves in the final 29:37. Tom Barrasso played the first two periods for Pittsburgh, giving up six goals on 28 shots. Peter Skudra turned aside all eight shots in the third period.
