SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- After becoming the last WNBA team to
pick up a win, the Charlotte Sting visit the Utah Starzz. The Sting opened their five-game road trip Monday by snapping a 10-game losing streak dating to last season. Andrea Stinson and Rhonda Mapp scored 21 points apiece in a 78-67 victory over the Detroit Shock in a rematch of last year's Eastern Conference semifinals. Mapp grabbed 15 rebounds, helping Charlotte to a 35-31 advantage on the boards. Dawn Staley scored 13 points, including a 3-pointer that opened a deciding 7-2 run for the Sting en route to victory. Sting forward Charlotte Smith sat out with a twisted right knee and her status for tonight is unknown. They already are without Shalonda Enis, who has an Achilles injury, while Staley, Tracy Reid and Summer Erb are recovering from injuries. Charlotte missed the worst start in league history by two games. The Sting have not won two straight since taking six in a row from July 25-August 2. Utah's season-high losing streak reached three games Tuesday with an 88-80 loss against Orlando to open a three-game homestand. Natalie Williams scored 19 points and Adrienne Goodson added 17 for the Starzz, who fell at home for just the second time in nine outings dating to last season. Utah has lost three in a row for the first time since dropping a team-record six straight last year from July 10-21. These clubs split two games last season with the home team winning each one. The Sting have won three of five meetings here and lead the all-time series, 6-3. These teams will battle at the Charlotte Coliseum on August 5.
